Kammok Python Straps Review
Five years in, the Python straps are a little gnarly with sap and still strong.
The Mantis hanging from the Python straps during my solo trip near Mammoth Lakes, September 2024.
The Python straps went around their first pair of trees at Middle Velma Lakes in August 2021, the first night I hung my own hammock, and the straps have gone up at every hammock camp since. The straps weigh 7.8 ounces on my lists and hung the Mantis through the Tahoe Rim Trail in July 2026.
Five years of pine have left the webbing a little gnarly with sap. The straps are still strong. Wide webbing also spreads the load around the bark, which a thin cord cannot do.
Trees are the part of a hammock camp I have learned to judge carefully. On a 2014 trip in Desolation I slung a bear hang over a dead tree, and a bear could have snapped the branch and brought my food down. I also carry a pair of strap extenders at 7.5 ounces when I cannot be certain of the trees at a camp. The extenders nearly double the weight of the suspension, and I would rather carry the extra ounces than arrive at a camp where the trees stand too far apart.
What works
- Still strong after five years of use.
- Webbing straps rather than rope around the trees.
What does not
- The webbing collects sap over the years.
- Extenders for wide trees add another 7.5 ounces.
