Granite Gear Crown2 60 Backpack Review
The Crown2 60 is light and does everything I need, as long as I stay organized around one big pocket.
The Crown2 60 packed for the Tahoe Rim Trail, July 2026.
On my first trip into Desolation Wilderness in 2012 the red pack on my back belonged to a friend, and so did the pants and the shirt. I borrowed my way through the next several trips too. The Crown2 60 has been my own pack since June 2021, bought in the same stretch as the hammock, when I stopped making do and started outfitting myself properly.
Since then the Crown2 has carried every one of my published trip kits, from three nights on the Lost Coast in February 2022 to the full loop of the Tahoe Rim Trail in July 2026. The pack weighs 38.7 ounces on my lists. The Crown2 is pretty great and does everything I need a pack to do. On a wet February day in Point Reyes in 2024, the yellow cover over the Crown2 held up considerably better than my rain jacket did.
The limit is pockets. The main body is essentially one big pocket, so I have to stay extra organized. I sort the small pieces into a 6-liter dry bag for camp gear and a 2-liter Sea to Summit bag for hygiene, which keeps the single compartment from swallowing them. The weight is the reward for that discipline.
What works
- Light for a 60-liter pack.
- Carries everything a multi-day trip needs.
What does not
- Limited pockets mean the load needs stuff sacks to stay organized.
